Fayruz (Alia Shawkat) is the star of Atropia, a fake country the U.S. military has invented to practice invasions during the Iraq war. Waiting for a providential call that would launch her career in Hollywood, she spends her days preparing fresh recruits for cultural interactions they may face on the field. But when she meets Abu Dice (Callum Turner), a young soldier playing the role of an insurgent, their romance quickly threatens their respective ambitions and questions their allegiance to the military and Atropia’s purpose.
